2020 Global CBD Summit Gets Diamond Sponsor

If you’ve been paying even the slightest attention to the news, you’ll have undoubtedly heard about Cannabidiol or CBD. It is a compound extracted from hemp, and as legend has it, is an extremely potent and versatile natural medicine. For the past few years, people have used it to help manage insomnia, anxiety, chronic pain and high blood pressure among a plethora of medical conditions.

Last June, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration gave the nod to a CBD-derived drug called Epidiolex to help manage seizures in two rare and hard to manage pediatric epilepsies, Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome and Dravet Syndrome.

However, despite these amazing feats, the compound is still steeped in mystery. Epidiolex is the only instance where a medical claim has been researched and clinically tried. Most of the other benefits are backed by anecdotal evidence.

Not to mention, CBD’s origins will always haunt it. A lot of the negative shine that marijuana gets always reflects onto the non-intoxicating hemp and CBD, even if it’s unwarranted.

A pioneering CBD summit might soon make that a thing of the past. The Association for the Cannabinoid Industry (ACI) announced it will be holding a two-day CBD summit in partnership with The Grocer. Dubbed the ‘CBD Global Summit 2020,’ it will be held at the Park Place Victoria, London, with the aim of demystifying hemp and cannabis in fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG).

The summit will be held in collaboration with The Grocer’s sister publications FoodNavigator, Nutraligredients, and CosmeticsDesign.

The summit will be graced by global expert speakers and panelists from various industries including food, drink, pharma, health and beauty, retail, medical science, and biotech.

The ACI was formed in response to the rapidly growing demand for CBD in the food, drink, wellness and beauty industries in the UK. It brings together leading businesses and experts who are committed to fostering a legally compliant, socially responsible and innovative CBD industry that puts consumer safety first.

Last year, the ACI held a CBD summit where interesting statistics were tabled. A YouGov poll showed that one in ten adults (16%) of adults had tried a CBD product. By 2025, the UK CBD market is expected to have hit at least $1.3 billion.

Shomi Malik, Department Director ACI, says that the ACI is committed to providing the required stewardship to support the development of a legal, safe and regulated cannabinoid industry in the UK.

“Today’s announcement of the ACI as a Diamond Sponsor represents another key milestone on this path. We look forward to connecting with other key players in this nascent industry. It’s vital that we all share our experiences and work together to ensure that standards are met,” Malik added.

Industry watchers believe that North American CBD companies, such as Neutra Corp. (OTC: NTRR) and HempTown USA fully support the London summit since it will help to drive the industry forward in a responsible way.
