CBD Bar Set to Be Opened in Manchester

A new bar, appropriately dubbed ‘Hemp’ will be opening in Manchester, and it will sell a variety of CBD-infused drinks for $9.10 – $13.00. The bar will open at 82-84 Yib Street, backed by property investor Oliver Lipson and operated by co-founders Ryan Whelan and Kirsty Millard.

According to Whelan, they are trying to keep the prices on level with the area. “CBD just adds an extra something to your drink, some people like to relax with a glass of wine, and if you have a CBD-infused drink it’s definitely going to give you that extra bit of relaxation.”

Although cannabidiol was barely known a few years ago, it has become massively popular in just a short time, even gracing the top of end year most searched lists. Extracted from hemp, it is one of the over 100 active cannabinoids present in the cannabis plant. The 2018 Farm Bill designated cannabis with less than 0.3% THC (delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol) as industrial hemp, making it legal to grow, market and sell hemp and its extracts.

The market for CBD grew at astronomical rates, and in a short while, the sector was estimated to be worth billions. The chemical’s popularity lies in its medicinal properties. It is a potent natural medicine, effective against a range of ailments including high blood pressure, chronic pain, and insomnia.

These days, it’s become increasingly common to run into CBD. The chemical is everywhere from tinctures and topicals to donuts, gummy bears, alcohol, and desserts. Although there’s little scientific research to back the claims that CBD is a sort of miracle drug, people have been flocking in droves for CBD products.

Whelan says that cannabidiol is good for anxiety and stress relief. “It’s anti-inflammatory, people say it’s good for pain. It’s Manchester’s first Amsterdam-style cafe but obviously with no illegal substances.”

The bar will sell a range of spirits including hemp-infused oil, CBD-infused cocktails, beers, and coffees as well as “vapeables” and “distillables.”

“It was a natural progression from a vape shop for which we don’t have the space. This venue’s the perfect size for a CBD cafe and the perfect location. It’s funky around here,” says Whelan, adding that he thinks they’ll see massive growth come next year when CBD gets even more popular.

There are a few other bars and cafes in Greater Manchester selling CBD products, but Hemp will be the first with an alcohol focus.

Industry watchers strongly believe that CBD companies like Canopy Rivers Inc. (TSX: RIV) (OTC: CNPOF) and Hemptown USA are glad that such cafes are opening since CBD will be brought closer to ordinary consumers.
