New Study to Investigate CBD Effects on Creative Flow

Cannabidiol, better known as CBD, is a chemical that’s taken the world completely by storm. Extracted from hemp, it was legalized in 2018 when the Farm Bill released industrial hemp from decades of prohibition. And in its first years of legal sales, the CBD industry is worth millions of dollars, with experts estimating it will hit $20 billion by 2024.

CBD’s insane popularity can be traced back to its potent medical properties. The hemp extract is said to be effective against a wide variety of ailments, with users claiming it was able to stave off the symptoms of conditions like anxiety, nausea, chronic pain, and high blood pressure. Although a lot of these claims haven’t been verified yet, users swear by cannabidiol, and they have been buying CBD products in droves.

Researchers are now looking to prove whether or not CBD has an effect on ‘creative flow,’ known colloquially as being in the zone. This is a state of total absorption and effortless concentration, where the mind and body seem to function extremely well with the least effort. And this natural high isn’t just confined to athletes or artists; everyday folk can experience flow whenever they are fully engaged in say, a hobby or a relationship, resulting in a flood of dopamine, serotonin, and endorphins.

In collaboration with researchers from the University of California, The Flow Research Collective and Ojai Energetics are looking into any connections between creative flow and CBD. They will study the effects of cannabidiol on the amount of time it takes to ‘get in the zone,’ the depth of the flow and the recovery.

According to Steven Kotler, Executive Director of the Flow Research Collective and bestselling author and journalist, the flow is an “optimal state of consciousness, moments of rapt attention and total absorption, when you get so focused on the task at hand that everything else disappears.” He has long studied the neuropsychological elements of human performance, and he also advises Ojai Energetics.

“We’re excited to partner with The Flow Research Collective and the esteemed researchers at UCLA to explore the finer details of what already know, that CBD is greatly beneficial to those wishing to improve their business, sport or creative performance by achieving and sustaining a ‘state of flow,'” says Ojai Energetics CEO and Founder Will Kleidon.

“Professional athletes including pro-surfer Kassia Meador, from extreme to traditional, love taking our formulas and many report, anecdotally, an enhanced flow experience. We now get to work with the best to study it in-depth, as we are always about the data and the science, as well as the individual’s journey.”

It is believed that the entire CBD sector, including Willow Biosciences Inc. (TSX: WLLW) (OTCQB: CANSF), will be waiting to see what scientific explanation the researches discover for what cannabidiol users have been experiencing.
