Young Lady Launches CBD-Infused Gin Inspired by Trip to India

Cannabidiol, or CBD, has been having a magnificent run for the past few months. The chemical is one of the over 100 cannabinoids produced by the hemp plant (cannabis with less than 0.3% THC levels), and according to users, it has potent medicinal properties. Users claim that CBD offers relief against a plethora of conditions ranging from high blood pressure and insomnia to chronic pain.

However, there’s little scientific research to back these clams. The only instance where CBD has been clinically tried is Epidiolex, a CBD-based drug that was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to manage seizures in rare and hard to treat pediatric epilepsies.

This hasn’t prevented consumers from buying CBD products in multitudes, and to cater to the ever-increasing demand, sellers have had to be innovative. These days, you can find CBD in everything from pastries, soft drinks, beers, and even spirits.

Twenty-four-year-old Sally Wynter is one of these innovative sellers. She recently launched a line of CBD-infused gin, dubbed ‘MUHU’, and she managed to do so with only $1,350 as seed money.

After graduating in 2017, the freelance media professional traveled through Asia, and India especially left a lasting mark on her. Her travels inspired her to explore flavors and spices to enhance her cooking.

“It was just mental. After I got over the culture shock, I found Asia was an amazing place and fell in love with the vibrant colors. I got into so many different flavors and spices, especially with drinks such as lemongrass and I couldn’t find that when I came back home,” she says.

Wynter quickly noticed that there were hardly any products, especially drinks, which offered the diverse flavors she had experienced back in Asia. Thus, the idea to make CBD-infused gin with unique flavors was born. She had already been using the hemp extract in her drinks for two years.

“I was using it for my muscles and then I started putting it into my cocktails and it was a real mood booster,” she says.

Unfortunately for her, she was cash strapped, and the distillery she was in talks with wanted a few thousand dollars, and they still couldn’t promise to deliver what she wanted. Luckily the smaller distillery that would have handled labeling agreed to do it free of charge.

Wynter handled all the legal issues on her own too, foregoing a trademark attorney and turning to the Gov.UK website for legal guidance.

“The response has been great. People have come to me and say they never drink gin neat and now they have it on ice.”

She advises aspiring business owners to believe in themselves and do it. “Nothing is stopping you as long as you’re determined, you can find a way. Even if you have no experience, pick up the phone and tell people your idea.”

Experts believe it is such remarkable stories of how new businesses can start that make established companies like No Borders Inc. (OTC: NBDR) and Green Growth Brands Inc. (CSE: GGB) (OTCQB: GGBXF) to get re-energized to bring even better products to the market since one can never tell how a single product impacts the life of the consumer.
